Surrounded by a park whose wooded sun-lit slopes promise a lovely walk, Petřín is one of the most frequently visited places in Prague. It also boasts the title of the highest spot in the Czech capital. It is a great place to go whatever the weather or season. You can climb to the top of the tower and enjoy magnificent views of the whole of Prague or get lost in a mirror maze. On top of all this, stargazers may consider visiting Štefánik Observatory located nearby.
The Petřín Mirror Maze
Don’t let the looks fool you. This might look like a tiny castle but in fact it is a maze. Built in the late 19th century, this small world of distorting mirrors enchants visitors of all generations. Whether you charge down the complicated network of corridors as fast as you can or take a relaxed walk instead, you will enjoy the venue. Just make sure you don’t run into yourself!
If you manage to find the exit, there will be another illusionary world waiting for you – the world as it was at the end of the Thirty Years War. You’re going to experience what it was like to live in war-torn Prague when the city was being invaded by the Swedish.
When you’ve had enough fighting, you may enter the last section of the Petřín world of illusions. In what is called the Laughter Hall visitors of all ages can have lots of fun looking at distorted images of themselves. These are created by a set of curved mirrors designed to distort and caricature visitors’ looks in such a way as to make them look extremely gaunt, as big and chubby as the famous cartoon character Obelix, and plenty more. Just come over and see how much fun you can make of yourselves.
The Břetislavka Team wish you lots of fun and great experiences while discovering Prague.
